Networking Relationship for Omega-3 Learning and Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine of the American Dietetic Association

Published: Friday, September 11, 2009

The networking relationship between Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine (DIFM) and the International Omega-3 Learning and Education Consortium for Health and Medicine (Omega-3 Learning) will be mutually beneficial to both organizations as each organization will be able to help fulfill the goals of the other. Both endeavor to further knowledge in the field of Nutrition through educational opportunities. The Consortium will provide scientifically relevant and unbiased information that DIFM members can utilize to strengthen their professional status and establish them as food and nutrition experts and leaders. This will also aid the dietitians in being recognized as valuable resources for other healthcare professionals. Omega-3 Learning is striving to communicate, develop, disseminate and advance the understanding of the nutrition and health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids to consumers and healthcare professionals and by networking with DIFM. The educational materials of the Consortium will be placed in the capable hands of Dietitians who will inform and educate the public about the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids and how to incorporate them into a healthy diet. This network will be instrumental in promoting the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids to consumers that the Consortium could otherwise not reach. With the networking relationship, DIFM will offer the educational tools provided by Omega-3 Learning (newsletters, food databases and research findings) as benefits to DIFM members. DIFM will make the Consortium known to its members and provide an avenue in which to disseminate information on omega-3 fatty acids in nutrition and health. The DIFM will provide this information, as well as any upcoming events, via eblasts, list serves and their quarterly newsletter. The DIFM will have access to the Consortium newsletters and food databases and this content will be available for the Registered Dietitians to utilize in their quarterly newsletters and outreach materials. Omega-3 Learning will also provide one Continuing Education event per year (at minimum) that would be comprised of a webinar, podcast, print materials or other form of educational tool. The Consortium and DIFM will work cooperatively to develop and implement Continuing Education credits to their members. In general, these activities will be facilitated by each organization and will have an easily accessible link to the other's website.
