Omega-3 Consortium Committees

Oversight Committee

The oversight committee will evaluate annually the activities of the consortium in meeting the goals in education. The assessment will focus on achieving the global challenge of omega-3 education for the public, physicians and veterinarians. The oversight committee will provide guidance in developing a community of scientists and educators from institutions to foster a dynamic synergy for nutrition and health learning.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee is responsible for the direction of the consortium and will strive to represent the scientific community inclusive of human medicine, nutrition, food science, and veterinary medicine.

Director

The Director of the consortium is responsible for reporting activities and progress to the Executive committee and facilitating communications to all committees with the assistance of the Administrative Coordinator.

Learning Committee

The Learning Committee will provide direction and oversight on educational matters and will be comprised of individuals representing points of consumer learning regarding omega-3 PUFA. The committee includes teachers, college professors, dietitians, physicians, media health consultants, and a member of the National Science Foundation.

Peer Scientists Committee

The Peer Scientists Committee will serve two functions by being an educated resource for media, industry and other organizations as well as providing expertise on omega-3 PUFA topics and oversight on scientific issues.

Administrative Coordinator

The Administrative Coordinator supports the Director and Executive Committee, coordinates many of the consortium's activities and communications, and compiles much of the information used to develop content for the website and educational materials. The Administrative Coordinator works with the Web Administrator in fulfilling their responsibilities.

A graduate student will provide additional support to the consortium by conducting literature searches based on the parameters identified by the investigators and the Executive Committee, and will work with the Learning Committee.

Web Administrator

The Web Administrator will be responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of the website, and use of appropriate links. The Web Administrator will work closely with the Executive Committee and Director and provide expertise on Internet operations to the Peer Scientists Committee and Learning Committee.

Organizational Structure

The organizational structure of the consortium consists of the Executive Committee, the Director, the Learning and Peer Scientists Committees, the Administrative Coordinator and the Web Administrator.
